Powerful IED Explodes on Assam Railway Track

Suspected militants triggered a powerful explosion on a railway track targeting the Garibrath Express in Assam’s Kokrajhar district on Saturday night, police said on Sunday.

According to report, a powerful Improvised Explosive Device (IED) exploded on the railway track near Kuwamari area between Gossaigaon and Chowtara railway station in Kokrajhar district on Saturday midnight.

“The blast has damaged the railway track,” a police official

Reports says suspected militants triggered the explosion targeting the Garibrath Express, but the IED exploded before the train arrived at the area.

Top police and railway officials rushed to the area and the railway engineers are now starting to repair the damaged track.

On 8th of July 2010, at least seven persons, including the train driver, were injured when five bogies and engine of the Kolkata-bound Garibrath Express derailed after NDFP militants blasted the railway track between Gossaigaon and Chowtara railway stations in the district.
