One Militant Killed, One Held in Karbi Anglong

According to information received, one suspected ultra belonging to an unknown outfit was shot dead by personnel of Indian army near village Kuligaon under Dilai police station late at night, this week. One AK-56 assault rifle was recovered from the dead man.

At the time of filing this report, police still have not identified the deceased.

According to police sources, the Indian army launched an area domination operation in Kuligain locality, believed to be influenced by Karbi terrorist elements in Bokajan subdivision of Karbi Anglong district. When combat vehicles were passing through a wooded area, the army noticed some suspicious movement in the deep foliage.

When the suspects were challenged, they opened fire. In retaliation, the army fired back, and one of the militants sustained bullet injuries. Later, when the area was searched, the bullet-ridden body of the suspected militant was retrieved from a creek near the village.

The body of the deceased was handed over to Delai police late that night.

In a separate operation, Indian army and police arrested one Karbi People Liberation Tiger (KPLT) militant from Parbat Ronghang village under Borpathar police station and recovered one .22 pistol and some bullets yesterday.

Police identified the KPLT cadre as Jayanta Rongpi, (30), who confessed that he was involved in killing 2 civilians in Napak Terang village on December 3, 201. The militant was working under the guidance of self-styled Chairman of KPLT, Sarmung Timung.
