NDFB Militants Launch Deadly Ambush in Lower Assam

NDFB(S) Militants Attack SSB Patrol Group In Kokrajhar

NDFB(S) militants on Friday attacked a patrolling group of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) in Lower Assam’s Chirang district when security forces led by the Indian army jointly launched an all out operation against the extremist group who were responsible for killing at least 80 Adivasi people in Kokrajhar and Sonitpur district.

The attack took place in the Phoisana Bazar area under Bijni sub division in the district on Friday evening.

NDFB(S) militants had lobbed a grenade targeting the SSB patrol group at the remote area and fired at the before fleeing into the nearby thick jungles.

No casualties have been reported so far in the attack.

CRPF personnel from nearby Panbari camp rushed to the area and jointly launched an operation with SSB to trace the fled militants. Army chief Dalbir Singh Suhag will visit Assam on Saturday.

He will attend a crucial security meeting with top officials of security forces and the Assam government.

Chief Minister of Jharkhand, Babulal Marandi, blamed the Assam government for the recent violence, when he visited the affected areas in Kokrajhar district on Saturday.

Marandi demanded that proper security be arranged for the innocent adivasi people in Assam.

Meanwhile, a crucial Unified Command meeting was held at Assam CM Tarun Gogoi’s official residence at Koinadhara on the outskirts of Guwahati on Saturday evening.
