Assam electoral growth rate rise abnormal : Assam Public Works
The growth rate of the electorate in Assam is abnormally high comparing the national rate of voters, according to Assam Public Works (APW), an Assam based NGO, on Thursday.
On this issue, APW submitted a memorandum to Union Home Minister P Chidambaram on Thursday and asked the Union government to start the NRC update project in Assam, which was suspended after the incident in Barpeta district in 2010.
“The situation is more sinister as over 110 assembly constituencies electorate growth rate is abnormally high because of large numbers of illegal Bangladeshi migrants enrolled in the voter list,” APW president Abhijeet Sarmah said.
He says the recent electoral rolls have shown this figure and has alarmed the state, and it threatens national security.
The APW alleged that since 1971, illegal migrants were enrolled in the state voter list.
APW asked the Union government to start the suspended NRC update project in Assam.
