Indian Truckers Use Connectivity Route to Smuggle Drugs to Myanmar

Guwahati, November 12 (IBNS): North Eastern region of India has used one of the connectivity route to smuggle drugs to its neighbouring country Myanmar and Bangladesh.

It was unearthed, when central custom officials on Monday seized huge quantity of drugs worth over Rs 1 crore in Guwahati, suspected to be meant for smuggling to Myanmar.

The custom officials had apprehended two persons who were trying to smuggle the drugs to the neighbouring country.

The nabbed person duo were identified as Raju Sen (driver) and Lalton Tuya.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of the central custom department were raided at a godown at Boragaon area in the city and seized the drugs, packed in 58 cartons.

The custom officials seized 1174 kgs of pseudo ephedrine tablets and 101.56 kgs of pseudo ephedrine in crystal form.

“The consigned was made by a Delhi based transport company in a truck to Guwahati that was trying to smuggle the drugs to Myanmar via Mizoram,” a top custom official said.

The custom department team also seized the truck, where the drugs were loaded.
