UPA presidential candidate Pranab Mukherjee on Friday rejected the P A Sangma’s first-ever call for a debate between the presidential candidates.
During the two-day visit to the North East India, Pranab Mukherjee on Friday said in a press conference in Guwahati that, debate is not necessary Indian politics.
“I came here as a presidential candidate and urge all political parties in the region to play a vital role in the upcoming presidential election,” he said.
In the press conference, Mukherjee said for the Trinamool Congress issue, the party head will decide.
Pranab Mukherjee arrived at Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, where he was welcomed by Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and Assam Pradesh Congress Committee president Bhubaneswar Kalita.
Later he attended a meeting with the CM of Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh and state ministers, MP’s and MLA’s at Srimanta Sankardev Kalashetra in the city.
Pranab Mukherjee also talked with the leaders of AIUDF and BPF.
Mukherjee will fly to Agartala on Saturday where he will discuss with the leaders of political parties including Congress about the upcoming presidential election.
