High Alert in Assam Ahead of Independence Day Celebration

Assam police on Sunday sounded a high alert across the state ahead of the Country’s 68th Independence Day celebration after security forces recovered a number of IED’s from different areas of the state. The IEDs were planted by militant groups for exploding on the special day.

ADGP (law & order) of Assam police AP Raout informed the media that police raised the high alert across the state, ahead of I-Day celebration.

On Sunday, security forces recovered two powerful IED’s in Assam’s Nagaon and Sontitpur districts.

CRPF also recovered a powerful IED in the Niz Dimow area near Bebejia in Nagaon district on Sunday morning and later defused it.

“A suspected militant had planted the IED inside of a tiffin box,” a top CRPF official said.

In a separate incident, security forces recovered an IED from a passenger bus at Biswanath Chariali in Sonitpur district on Sunday.

On August 9, police recovered a bomb from a public place at Amguri in Sivsagar district.

Security has been beefed up across the state and police are arranging patrolling in suspicious places.
