Governor Inaugurates Assam University Buildings In Diphu

Janaki Ballav Patnaik, Governor of Assam and Chief Rector, Assam University will inaugurate the permanent buildings of the Diphu Campus of Assam University tomorrow at 8th Kilometre Diphu- Lumding road. According to the official programme, he will also make a vehicular tour of the newly constructed campus of the central university.

The Chief Rector will inaugurate the library cum computer center surrounded by the majestic administrative building erected at the backdrop of picturesque Karbi hills. He will also attend an open meeting arranged on the occasion as chief guest in the university campus.

A number of other newly constructed university edifices will be inaugurated by Biren Sing Engti, Member of Parliament from the hill districts, Joy Ram Engleng chief Executive Member of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council and Prof. Somnath Dasgupta, vice Chancellor of Assam University.

The District administration has given a face-lift to Diphu circuit house for the one day visit by the governor. This is the Assam Governor’s first visit to Karbi Anglong after the recent uprising on the issue of statehood demand. The governor being the guardian of the sixth scheduled areas of Assam according to the constitution is not likely to say anything on the matter tomorrow, although he will hold a meeting with the district administration where heads of army, police, paramilitary will be present.
