Four Militants Killed in Assam Encounter

Four hardcore militants of Dimasa National Revolutionary Front (DNRF) were killed and a militant of NSCN (IM) was injured during gun battle with security forces in Assam’s Dima Hasao district on Saturday morning, police said.

The encounter took place at the Mailoo area near Langting in the district on the wee hours of Saturday.

“Based on our intelligence report, a team of police and army launched a search operation at the hills area, where a militant group were reportedly hiding,” an official of Dima Hasao district police said.

Reports say when the security forces reached the spot, the militants opened fire on security forces and bullets were exchanged for an hour, in which four militants of DNRF were killed on the spot and a cadre of NSCN (IM) injured,” police said.

Security forces recovered three AK-47 rifles with magazines, four hand grenades and several rounds of live ammunitions in possession of slain militants.

Three cadres of anti-talk faction group of United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) were also apprehended and few arms-ammunitions recovered by police in Assam’s Karbi Anglong district on Saturday.

Police recovered one AK-56 rifle, two magazines and 22 rounds of live ammunitions in possession of the nabbed cadres.
