Five NDFB(S) Militants Arrested in Assam

Security forces on Tuesday apprehended five hardcore militants belonging to NDFB(S) including two militants wanted by Assam police from Udalguri and Sonitpur district, officials said.

Assam police IGP of BTAD, Dr LR Bisnoi said Udalguri police had captured two NDFB(S) cadres and recovered arms and ammunition in the BTAD district.

“Based on intelligence received, police launched an operation in the Khusrabari Habi area under Udalguri police station and captured the militant duo,” Dr LR Bisnoi said. The militants were identified as Dhananjoy Basumutary alias B Didum and Sanjay Basumutary.

Security forces recovered a 7.65mm pistol with a magazine, one point 22 pistol with a magazine, three 36HE hand grenades, one ignitor set, three rounds of 7.65mm ammunition and one round of point 22 ammunition from them.

“Among the arrested militants, Dhananjoy Basumutary is the Lance Corporal of Udalguri platoon of the militant group,” Bisnoi said.

In a separate incident, security personnel captured three NDFB(S) militants in Sonitpur district. The police and army jointly launched an operation at Sarakpur Dhuli Nalah, a remote village bordering with Arunachal Pradesh in Sonitpur district and nabbed the militants identified as Nitul Daimary alias Naihab, Runilush Daimary alias Mwnthai and Sukson Basumutary alias Jondesh.

Security forces recovered an AK-47 rifle, one Chinese rifle, and one hand grenade from them.

Police said Nitul Daimary is the self styled deputy commander of the 3rd battalion of the outfit group. He was allegedly involved in the killing of former Addition SP of Sonitpur district Gulzar Hussain in an ambush at Thaolo under Dhekiajuli police station on January 28 last year.

Security forces have apprehended at least 90 militants so far during the operation against militants following the carnage in Assam on December 23 last year.
