Diehard Soccer Fan Hopes German Team Wins FIFA 2014

Putul Borah, a diehard German fan is still waiting for the day since 7th July 1994 when his darling team will win the FIFA world Cup. It was an action-packed day when the united Germany lost to Bulgaria 2- 1 in the quarter final; Putul Borah was disappointed beyond limits, in his own words “with intense sorrow in my heart, I buried the Passport Scotch bottle which I brought from Kolkata to celebrate Germany’s victory at a spot in the flower garden in my house. I resolved to take out the Scotch bottle only when Germany becomes world champion for the fourth time.”

So to know the destiny of the Passport Scotch bottle we will have to wait until 13th July.

In 1994 Brazil became the champion for the fourth time, beating Italy 3- 2 in the penalty shoot. The Diphu residence of Borah has virtually turned into a mini studio with large size LCD and superb sound system, dedicated satellite services and uninterrupted power supply system has been installed.

Twelve years have passed since 30th June 2002 when Germany lost to Brazil 2-0 in the final of South Korea Japan FIFA World Cup and since that day Putul Borah has refrained from drinking wine. “I will continue to do so till German’s next win in the World Cup championship, I am waiting for Germany’s victory, O God! Bless me.”

Seeing World Cup action has been prepared like a fiesta by this German fan in Diphu, the small headquarter town of Karbi Anglong district.

“This town has produced many football players of repute so as a proud citizen of this civic, Dbasish Roy, the former captain of the Indian soccer team who in his life time become almost a legendary performer, has been honored by the soccer fans of this town, to unfurl the manifestation ‘Brazil 14 Cake cutting.’ This has been observed, beside this to make the moments more enjoyable, an audio visual FIFA World Cup 1014 open Quiz will be held on July 6 and 7,” an exited Putul Bora said, flanked by his friends and football enthusiasts.

Recalling his experience with the Euro Cup and his favorite, Germany, Borah said, “Euro cup history says that on no occasion my team has won against Italy and that happened again, so on 1st July 2012, I buried a VAT-69 Scotch bottle in the name of the Euro cup title. I will only take out the bottle if Germany wins the tournament for the fourth time. I will tell you another story related to wine and football, on June 22, 2012 amid Euro Cup my friend Suprio Roy brought me a Jim Beam Black whiskey from Frankfurt airport I thanked him and said that I will share the whiskey with my friends only when German becomes world champion. My love for German made me to depart from wine and one day this superb country will be the cause behind my continuation of drinking, yes one day I will resume drinking and that too with the first drop of wine from a bottle of German origin,” said a unyielding Putul Borah.

Putul Borah gives 100% credit to his wife Gracy Malswamy for helping him in getting not only national but also international fame by creating the atmosphere in his house during the world cup.

“Perhaps the Germans are not aware of this, however I am a blind supporter of German football but they will come to know about my passion as I am following supporting this country since last 24 years,” Mr. Borah added.
