Boat Tragedy: Rahul Gandhi and Assam Chief Offers Condolences

Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi and Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi visited the site of the boat accident in Assam’s Dhubi district on Wednesday.

The boat tragedy reportedly claimed over 200 lives.

Rahul Gandhi had interacted with the victims family at Medartari in the district and expressed his grief to the victims.

Congress general secretary along with Assam CM Tarun Gogoi, Assam Pradesh Congress Committee president Bhubaneswar Kalita visited the site of the ferry accident and 45 minutes to talk to the victims’ family.

Rahul Gandhi arrived at the Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International airport in Borjhar around 2 pm on Wednesday and flew to the ferry accident site by helicopter.

Meanwhile, Assam government sought help to the Bangladesh government for search and rescue operations the survivors.

Over 200 people were still missing in the boat tragedy.

The motorized boat with over 350 passengers on board capsized in the mid of the Brahmaputra river at Bura-Buri area near Jaleswar in the district on Monday evening.

The boat reportedly was caught under cyclonic storm.

Rescue team comprising NDRF, BSF water wings, police, local people and army have continued the search operation for survivors in Brahmaputra river.

A body of child was recovered by a fisherman at Patadia area on Wednesday, a source said.
