It looks as if Barack Obama is developing a flock of his own, as a website is being dedicated to the Democratic presidential candidate asking the question: Is Barack Obama the Messiah?
“I cried all night,” Jessie Jackson, Jr. said when he talked about Obama winning the Democratic presidential nomination on June 5. “I’m going to be crying for the next four years. What Barack Obama has accomplished is the single most extraordinary event that has occured in the 232 years of the nation’s political history. … The event itself is so extraordinary that another chapter could be added to the Bible to chronicle its significance.”
Even a group of Indians in New Delhi believed that Obama is “good for India if he becomes the next president,” according to leader Brij Mohan Bhama. “We have heard that he carries a small monkey in his charm” he states. “So he is a devotee of Hanuman. That’s why we want to present him with this idol.”
However, according to Carolyn Sauvage-Mur, chairwoman for Democrats Abroad-India, it’s not concluded that Obama’s “good luck charm” is of Hanuman. “But the people here,” she said, “think it is Hanuman.”
The two-foot tall, 15kg gold-polished, brass idol will be sent to Obama today as a present during a prayer ceremony.
“Obama stands for change” Mr. Bhama answers. “We are hoping that he will bring about change so that oil and food prices come down.”
“India will progress if he comes to power.”
