Security forces recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition in Assam’s Dima Hasao district on Saturday night, police said.
Following a tip-off, a joint team of Dima Hasao district police and Assam Rifles launched a search operation at Natun Basti area in the hill district and recovered arms and ammunition, which were hidden under a tree near a railway track.
Security forces recovered one powerful Improvised Explosive Device (IED), two Chinese hand grenades, three handmade revolver, 100 gelatin sticks, 40 detonators, 973 rounds ammunition of AK-47 rifle.
“Suspected NSCN (IM) militants had planned to trigger explosion at the railway track,” Dima Hasao district SP Mugdhajyoti Mahanta said.
Naga militant groups and a few other ethnic outfit groups are active in the trouble torn hill district.
