Assam Security Forces Arrest a Maoist in Guwahati

Security forces apprehended a maoist in Guwahati, capital city of Assam on Friday, police said.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of city police launched a search operation at Jayanagar area in the city and arrested the maoist from a rented house.

“The arrested maoist was involved in organisational activities in the Guwahati in past couple of months and he worked as a data entry operator at a local press,” a senior police official said.

The nabbed maoist was identified as Swapan Barman alias Robin.

The Guwahati city police arrested a top maoist leader named Moinul Hussain alias Naresh from Dhirenpara area in the city last month.

Maoists constitute three leading committees and armed wings in Assam.

Recently, four maoist were killed in an encounter with security forces at Sadia in Tinsukia district along the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border.
