Assam Ethnic Festival Culminates With Spectacular Cultural Dances and Folk Songs

Assam Ethnic Festival Comes To A Spectacular End

The first ‘Assam Ethnic Festival’ organized by Karbi Anglong district administration in association with Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council and Karbi Cultural Society came to a spectacular end on Sunday.

The four day cultural extravaganza began on Thursday which drew a huge crowd from all across the state. Participants and spectators heard folk songs and saw folk dances representing various tribes and communities thronged the extra large showground where the synchronized presentation of folk dance, drama, folk song and music, traditional sports and food fiesta continued over the four days.

To end the activity, a cultural procession of all participating communities in their time-honoured clothing was held at the slope of Taralango village where the epicentre of Karbi art and culture has been shaped up meticulously. The student council of Assam University, Diphu campus organized panel discussions and interaction. The District Information and Public Relations officer organized a photography competition on the theme of ethnic life of Assam.

MGK Vhanu, Principal Secretary, Government of Assam released the Lammet Amung, a book containing Karbi folk stories, essays, verses and paintings. There was also a video documentary on Chomankan Karbi ritual of death rite and the Assamese translation of Lammet Amung which were all published and sponsored by the Director of Information and Public Relations for the Hills, in the setting of ‘Assam Ethnic Festival.’

Well-known Padmashree Rongbong Terang and Uddhav Bharali, eminent inventor of machinery and equipment was faciliated by the organizers of the ethnic festival. The concluding day was remarkable. The theatre one and two which staged folk dances by different invited artists went on simultaneously. In the magnificent backdrop of a flowered space the ‘Best of Ethnic Dress Fashion Show’ and ‘Best of Miss and Mister Ethnic Assam 2015’ contests were held.
