Assam Commemorates Bhupenda’s First Death Anniversary

People of Assam paid their tribute to the Assam’s cultural icon Dr. Bhupen Hazarika on his first death anniversary across the state on Monday.

Assam state government, district administrations, several social organizations organized a day-long programme to pay tribute to the legend.

Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi offered his floral tribute to Bhupenda at his cremation ground at Gauhati University, Jalukbari.

Gogoi also attended the prayer meeting at Latachil playground and Bhupen Hazarika’s residence at Nizarapar, where noted filmmaker Kalpana Lajmi and family members were present.

Meanwhile, all Assam Students Union (AASU) had organized a special programme at Dighalipukhuripar, where members of the student organization and people lighting 10,000 earthern lamps as offered tribute to the music maestro.

Hazarika’s wife Priombada Patel and his son Tez Hazarika also offered tribute, who arrived in Guwahati from Canada on October 25.

Social organizations of Nagaon, Sivasagar, Jorhat, Golaghat, Morigaon, Kamrup, Nalbari, Dhubri, Barpeta, Lakhimpur, Sonitpur, Dhemaji, Darrang, Kokrajhar and other district had organized day-long programme and people sang his famous song “Manuhe Manuhor Babe”.

Students of various college, school of Guwahati had made human chain and took public oath.
