Assam Calls for CBI Probe on Saradha Chit Fund Scam

Assam state government has decided for a CBI probe into the multi crore rupees chit fund scam of Saradha Group.

A top official source of the state government said that the state government will give at least three cases of Saradha group to CBI having inter-state ramifications.

Arrested chairman of Saradha Group Sudipta Sen had named Assam health and education minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, a congress MLA, a former Union minister, two local news channels for cheating him and collected crores of rupees from him.

Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi ordered the state home department to take steps for a CBI probe after several news channels of Assam aired the news on Saradha Group chairman Sudipta Sen letter to CBI.

“The Chief Minister of Assam Tarun Gogoi has ordered the state home department to take steps for a CBI probe into 128 chit fund companies operating in Assam including Saradha,” the state government official said.

Meanwhile, Assam health and education minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and congress MLA Anjan Dutta denied the allegations made against them in the letter written by Saradha Group chairman to CBI on April 6.

Meanwhile, Assam police had sealed several offices of Saradha Group including a Bangla daily ‘Sakalbela’ and English daily ‘Seven Sisters Post’.
