Assam: Security forces recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition and apprehended four militants in two separate operations in Assam on Saturday, police said.
Guwahati city police recovered four AK series rifles, 500 rounds of live ammunition and apprehended two militants of Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) near Khetri, outskirts of Guwahati.
“Following a tip-off, security forces launched operation in the Khetri area and recovered the arms and ammunition of the Garo militant group,” Assam police IGP (Central and Western Range) Dr LR Bisnoi said.
Security forces also apprehended two GNLA cadres.
“The consignment came from Dimapur in Nagaland to Meghalaya and the GNLA cadres carried out the arms and ammunition in two vehicles,” Guwahati city police SP (Operation) Ranjan Bhuyan said.
Recently, security forces arrested five militants of anti talk faction group of National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) and recovered one 9 mm pistol, one 7.65 mm pistol, one revolver and 19 rounds live ammunition in possession of them near Jorabat area, outskirts of Guwahati.
In a separate incident, Sonitpur district police had recovered three AK-56 rifles, six magazines, 120 rounds ammunition and apprehended two militants of the IK Songbijit led National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) near Koliabhumura bridge, some 12 kms of Tezpur on Saturday morning.
“The consignment came from Dimapur to Biswanath area in Sonitpur district, along Arunachal Pradesh border,” Sonitpur SP Arabinda Kalita said.
The apprehended militants were identified as Javed Basumutary and B Toppa.
