7 Killed in Assam Landslide

Guwahati, June 27: At least seven people were killed and three others injured in three separate landslides in Assam in past 48 hours, police said.

Three people including two minor girls of a family were killed when they were trapped by a rock in a landslide, where they were sleeping at Dhirenpara area in Guwahati city on Tuesday night.

The deceased were identified as Farjida Begum (42 years) and her two daughters Jebina Begum (14) and Mainu begum (4).

In a separate incident, three people were killed and three others injured in heavy landslides triggered by torrential rain at Mahadevtila near Haflong in Dima Hasao district on Tuesday night.

One of the deceased was identified as Adiga Khan (30), where other two were yet to be identified.

Meanwhile, torrential rain over the past few days triggered landslides in 26 places at the railway track between Lumding and Silchar of the Northeast Frontier Railway, sources said.

In which the NFR had been forced to cancelled all trains services in the section for an indefinite period.

“The workers and engineers engaged in work to clear the track,” an official of NFR said.

Chandra Thakuria was also killed in a landslide at the Santipur area in Guwahati city on Monday.
