15,000 khol players of Assam on Sunday made history as it was the latest entry of India’s Book of Records for the largest khol playing ensemble.
A khol is a traditional percussion instrument of Assam that was introduced by Mahapurusha Srimanta Sankardeva.
Srimanta Sankardeva Sangha, the organizer now to include it in Guinness Book of Records.
A total of 14,833 khol players across the state came at Mezenga Pathar (field) inTitabor of Jorhat district on Sunday and played a kohl in unison for 15 minutes and made history.
Abhijit Baruah, the observer of Guinness Book of Records witnessed the event which was also video recorded.
Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi inaugurated the event.
“It is a historic day for Assam as the khol is being introduced in an international level,” a performer said.
In addition, Hari Prasad Hazarika, secretary of Sankardeva Sangha said the new record will be included in the Guinness Book of World Record in the future.
