1 Killed, 20 Injured in Car Bomb Explosion in Kashmir

Srinagar, March 22: One person was killed and 20 others injured when a powerful bomb exploded in a car in Indian administered Kashmir on Thursday afternoon.

A police spokesman said a powerful car explosion took place at Bijbehara town, some 45 kms south of Srinagar, the summer capital of Indian administered Kashmir, at around 1515 hours.

“The explosion caused the death of one person and injuries to 20 others. The blast also caused panic in the area with people running helter skelter,” he said.

The identity of the deceased could not be ascertained. “The injured have been hospitalized,” he said

Among the injured are three paramilitary soldiers, who were deployed in the area at the time of blast.

Meanwhile, a senior police officer said it seems that driver of the vehicle was killed in the blast. “It seems militant was carrying the bomb to plant it somewhere to target soldiers. The car had passed a police station before it exploded,” he said.

No militant group has owned the responsibility of the blast and investigations have been launched.
