Yemen Murders 23 Children – Childhood Protection Organization Has Evidence

Seyaj, the Yemeni childhood protection organization is demanding that the United Nations open an urgent and independent investigation of the murders of 23 children

SEYAJ, an NGO, non-profit, independent volunteer organization for childhood protection in Yemen, was established in 2005. SEYAJ is based in Sana’a and work throughout Yemen, mainly focusing on rural areas where most abuses take place.

The Seyaj organization told NewsBlaze it condemns the killing of a 15 year old child, Moheeb Al-Ya’ary, who was beaten with rifle butts by police station security officers in the Al-Sabeen area in Sana’a yesterday.

A total of 23 children have been intentionally killed since mid-February in the peaceful protests in Yemen.

On the basis of the emergency declared in the country, an armed group of Interior soldiers called the victim, then killed him next to his house and in front of his own father. According to eye witnesses who reported to Seyaj, they hit him with rifle butts until he died.

Seyaj is asking all those concerned with human rights inside and outside Yemen to pay attention to this growing problem. In particular, they are asking the UN special Rapporteur on extrajudicial killings, Mrs. Kumara Zwami, the UN secretary General’s representative for children’s protection in armed conflict and Mrs. Maria Santos, the UN secretary General’s representative for children’s protection from violence, to open an urgent, neutral and independent investigation of crimes committed against children in Yemen.

Seyaj says it is ready to cooperate with international and national authorities and can provide documents and evidence.

In addition, Seyaj called on the Yemeni Attorney general to bear legal responsibility for such crimes and to arrange to bring the murderers, financiers and commanders to justice immediately, regardless of their political or security positions.
