U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton today said the U.S. government is pleased to hear that TNC will launch a full investigation into Qadhafi’s death during an interview with Indira Lakshmanan of Bloomberg News.
Ms. Clinton highlighted that the U.S. did not ‘celebrate’ the killing of Qadhafi. However, she said there was an acknowledgement, and certainly a recognition, that the death of Qadhafi was a pathway to seeing what kind of steps toward democracy the Libyan people will be able to take.
“The investigation is very important. It sends the right signal that we can’t start on a path toward democracy, rule of law, human rights without trying to understand and hold accountable anyone who acted in a way that violates those precepts.” -Ms. Clinton
She said the international community, too, wants to see the results of such an investigation. She stressed she appreciated what the TNC said.
