Islamic Conference Condemns Targeting Our Lady of Salvation Church in Baghdad

The Organization of the Islamic Conference said in it’s recent newsletter that targeting Our Lady of Salvation Church in Baghdad was a criminal act.

The Secretary-General of the Organization of the Islamic Conference, Professor Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, strongly condemned the criminal and terrorist act targeting unarmed civilians performing their religious rituals in the Church of Our Lady of Salvation (Sayydat Al-Najat) in Baghdad on Sunday. The attack killed and wounded a large number of innocent people.

The Secretary-General urged the Iraqi people to preserve their unity and combat terrorist acts aimed at provoking strife among Iraq’s sects. He asked them to commit to the 2006 Makkah document sponsored by the Organization of the Islamic Conference to renounce violence and extremism.

Professor Ihsanoglu emphasized the need to accelerate the formation of an Iraqi government to help maintain security and stability in Iraq for the good of the country and the region.

The Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) is the second largest inter-governmental organization after the United Nations, with membership of 57 states over four continents. The Organization is the collective voice of the Muslim world to safeguard and protect the interests of the Muslim world in the spirit of promoting international peace and harmony among the people of the world.
