Is US Ready to Avert Any Plotted Attack?
Amid the series of terrorist attacks that are making headlines around the world this month, thwre was speculation about whether the United States of America is next in line for a deadly terrorist attack.
In an interview with Today Show’s Savannah Guthrie, Secretary John Kerry addressed the question of whether the US is under threat of imminent attack by assuring the American public that they don’t have a specific threat stream or specific evidence in front of them.
“But there is always – as we’ve said to people for years – the threat of some actor, some lone wolf person, someone who slipped through.” – Secretary Kerry
According to Secretary Kerry, ever since 9/11, many experts across the United States, without regard to political party or to elections, have consistently said it’s probably not a question of if; it’s a question of when.
However, Secretary Kerry said with assurance that the US government has every single effort being made by Homeland Security, by the FBI, by Interpol, by intelligence communities exchanging information, and people are working hard at this. And so far, the US government has averted many different plots against the United States.
Is ISIS Gaining Strength?
Also, during the interview Secretary Kerry asserted that ISIS is going to be defeated.
“ISIS is not 10 feet tall.” – Secretary Kerry
He highlighted that he has absolute confidence that as the Coalition increases what they are doing today and there is a united front, and he is absolutely convinced that Daesh will be defeated and there will be increased steps taken in order to do so.
i>”And what we need to do is not succumb to fear.” – Secretary Kerry
He stressed that people need not panic. One more thing, he said, there is a strategy in place, and it is growing by the day.
“I have no doubt whatsoever that with the help of all the nations that are united against Daesh, they are going to be defeated.” – Secretary Kerry
Finally, Secretary Kerry pointed out that they are going to do everything in their power to hasten that journey.
ISIS Brings Terror In Iraq
The rebel fighters belong to the jihadist Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham.
The terroristic moves were not something new for this group – they have been known for insurgency operations in Nineveh and other provinces.
Mosul was the second city to be seized by the militants in 2014. The Iraqi government lost control of Fallujah earlier in 2014.
With the raging aggression in Mosul, the International Organization for Migration estimated at that time, the number of people displaced by violence in Mosul and surrounding areas of Ninewa governorate reached 500,000.
Daesh is composed largely of non-Syrian fighters and is believed to be made up of tens of thousands of fighters in Syria. The group gets its funding from oil revenue and wealthy donors in the Arab Gulf states, but some of their funding sources are being attacked and destroyed.
In August 2014, Assyrians in the US were reporting that ISIS was killing their families and friends in Iraq. WGN TV in Chicago reported that “The largest group of Iraqi Christians outside of Iraq lives in Chicago.”
