UN Should Not Make Second Mistake with Serbian Extremist Vuk Jeremic

“Jeremic, who was appointed president of the General Assembly on June 8, 2012, said that Kosovo’s application for UN membership during his presidency would be an act of meaningless provocation. As long as Serbia presides over UN General Assembly, and that is one year, this could happen only over my dead body,” Balkan Insight reported on July 12, 2012.

With this destructive and threatening allegation, Vuk Jeremic has locked his doors to get into the selecting process for the next Secretary-General of the United Nations (2017) because he has deeply and in the most shameful manner lessened the United Nations’ mission, role and prestige in the world. This statement by Jeremic is intolerable, inhuman, illegal, anti-peaceful and anti-civilization.

“Kosovo Would Join The UN Over My Dead Body” – Vuk Jeremic

It is simply a propagandistic threat to the independent Kosovo and its allies such as America, Canada, Germany, France, Great Britain, Italy as well as the other 105 countries of the United Nations that have already recognized the independence of the Republic of Kosovo (February 17, 2008).

Given that the United Nations is not the “private enterprise” of Vuk Jeremic and any kind of “legal property” of Serbia, but is an international organization consisting of 193 countries with equal rights and obligations, this statement is completely absurd, anti-humane and illegal. It is patently contrary to the UN Charter purposes and principles and international law norms and rules, too.

What Are United Nations Values?

In this context, are posed these two important questions:
1) What does this statement mean for the United Nations, is it acceptable and justified?

2) Does this person deserve to be a possible candidate for UN Secretary-General in 2017?

Eventual selecting Serbian Vuk Jeremic for the United Nations Secretary-General would be a fatal second mistake of the United Nations. That would be because he doesn’t care for the preservation and respect of human rights and freedoms as the universal values around the world, just his career, his people and Greater Serbia (Velika Srbija). Serbia committed three aggressions and genocides against Croatia, Bosnia and Kosovo to absorb their territories (1992-1999).

This absurd, immoral, anti-ethical, anti-professional, anti-legal, anti-human, outrageous, racist and hostile statement by Vuk Jeremic, former Chairman of the UN General Assembly raises a crucial and inevitable question: How was it possible that this person was elected as Chairman of the General Assembly of the United Nations (June 2012 – September 2013)?

This blunder with Vuk Jeremic should not be repeated now by the UN in selecting him for the UN Secretary-General in 2017, because he has proven to be a hardened Serbian nationalist and racist against Kosovo Albanians, charging that they had “stolen Kosovo from Serbia.”

It is also noted that Vuk Jeremic never condemned the three Serbian genocides in Croatia, Bosnia and Kosovo (1992-1999). He showed himself as nonchalant about the Human Rights and Freedoms as Universal Values of Civilization.

The most justified argument to refuse this Serbian candidate in the race for the next president of the UN General Assembly in 2017 is his own statement: “Kosovo would never join the UN over my dead body.”

Jeremic’s extreme racism, hatred, hostility and nationalism was proven by his alleged statement of July 2012, just a month after he was elected Chairman of the General Assembly of the United Nations.

This means that Serbia morally and legally cannot lead the United Nations. Official Belgrade still has not accepted that Serbia has prepared, planned, ordered and committed the crimes of genocide in Croatia, Bosnia and Kosovo (1992-1999).

Non-Recognition of Kosovo

Serbia does not have good relations with Kosovo, does not recognize the Republic of Kosovo, and has not apologized to the people of Kosovo for its war crimes in Kosovo, Instead, together with Moscow, Serbia lobbies other countries of the world to not recognize the independent Republic of Kosovo. Serbia therefore has no legal right to be the spokesman of the United Nations.

Domestic and international mass media announced on Tuesday (April 12, 2016) the Serbian government in Belgrade headed by prime minister Alexandar Vucic, decided that Vuk Jeremic would be its candidate for the next Secretary-General of the United Nations. Jeremic is a former Minister for Foreign Affairs of Serbia, and now ex-President of the U.N. General Assembly ( June 2012 – September 2013).

Nationalists and racists cannot represent the humane and peaceful United Nations. This must apply not only to the Serbian pretender Vuk Jeremic and his country Serbia, but also to any other candidates and countries interested in applying for the position of Secretary-General of the United Nations in 2017.

We have also heard about Vuk Jeremic from Serbia’s own President, Tomislav Nikolic. On December 31, 2015, Mr. Nikolic stated: “Mr. Jeremic, you do not have my support – let whoever wants to support you. If given the top UN job, Jeremic would not think about Serbia, but about his own career.”

Another reason Serbia cannot represent the United Nations is that it is still under the hypothec of the crime of multiple genocides (1992-1999).

This hypothec proves and the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia (ICTY), adopted by the United Nations (1993) which has not yet closed its “list” of punishment of Serbia’s war criminals who committed crimes of genocide against innocent civilian peoples in Croatia, Bosnia and Kosovo (1992-1999).

In order to reconcile, to cooperate and live in lasting peace with its neighbor countries, Serbia must apologize to Croatians, Bosnian Muslims and Albanians people for its war crimes of genocide committed in Croatia, Bosnia and Kosovo (1992-1999).

Without these kinds of changes in Serbia, security, stability and peace in the Balkans will remain fragile and in peril from Serbia which still does not want to apologize to the victims of the war. The Belgrade government categorically denies that the Serbian regime of Slobodan Milosevic committed crimes of genocide in Croatia, Bosnia and Kosovo (1992 -1999).

Bear in mind that in Bosnian Srebrenica there was a genocide committed by military and paramilitary Serbian forces led by Serbian General Ratko Mladic. On July 11, 1995 they killed more than “8,000 Bosnian Muslim men and boys. Serbia says sorry for Srebrenica, but its apologies should go further saying and accepting that Srebrenica was a Serbian genocide as assessed Harry de Quettwille.”

Hitherto, Serbia has refused to pay war reparations for the destruction, damage, burning of houses, looting of movable and real estate in Croatia, Bosnia and Kosovo (1992-1999).

For all of these reasons, Vuk Jeremic and Serbia should not be rewarded with control of the United Nations. The UN is supposed to be an international organization guided by fundamental principles, objectives and values of humanism, cooperation, reconciliation, peace, security, justice, harmony, stability and welfare throughout the entire international community.

Vuk Jeremic Is a Hardened Serbian Nationalist

A petition addressed to the UN Secretary-General, Ban Ki Moon was organized, asking that Vuk Jeremic be removed from the position of President of the UN General Assembly. The reason for the request was that “he organized a musical concert with Serbian nationalistic song /March on the Drina/ in the General Assembly Hall on 1/14/2013. This song was played during Srebrenica massacre as well as other war crimes in the region. The concert was a scandalous insult to the thousands innocent victims of genocide in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Whereas the United Nations is an international organization for facilitating cooperation in international law, international security, economic development, social progress, human rights, and achievement of world peace. For this reason, Vuk Jeremic should be removed from the position of the UN General Assembly President because he cannot use the UN Charter to spread hate and nationalism toward the other people and nations.”

That political scandal at the UN in 2013, is still fresh enough for the international community to remember.

Therefore, Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon, SC and GA should not accept the application from Vuk Jeremic, to run for the post of Secretary-General of the UN.

Of note also, is that Serbia’s president Tomislav Nikolic decorated Sudan’s former president Omar al-Bashir. Why and how was it possible that Nikolic awarded Serbia’s medal of merit to a criminal fugitive, whose government committed crimes of genocide against the non-Muslim population in Southern Sudan during the years 2003-2008?

“The former President of Sudan, Al Bashir is charged with the commission of genocide by killing, causing serious bodily or mental harm, and by deliberately inflicting conditions of life calculated to bring about the victimized group’s physical destruction. According to the assessment of the United Nations, approximately 300,000 people were killed, and over two million people were forced to leave their homes, as part of the Government of Sudan’s counter-insurgency campaign in Darfur during the period covered by the indictment against Al-Bashir.” [Daily Mail]

What kind of message does all of this send about the values of the United Nations, should Vuk Jeremic even be allowed to stand as a candidate?
