Citizens of Liechtenstein Celebrate Their National Day

The citizens of Liechtenstein today celebrated their 205th anniversary of independence.

Liechtenstein is a landlocked european alpine country. The Principality shares borders with Switzerland and Austria. With a population of around 35,000, this 61 square mile country has the second highest gross domestic product per person in the world and the lowest external debt, according to Wikipedia.“Today, we are working on areas of mutual interest that are helping people around the world. Your nation demonstrates the impact that even the smallest countries can have on the world stage.” -Ms. Clinton

According to Ms. Clinton, Liechtenstein has taken steps that are positively contributing to the success of its country. She commended Liechtenstein for shining a light on banks that, for too long, have been hiding in the shadows. Liechtenstein is also bolstering vital data collection and sharing efforts as both work together to fight international terrorism.

She stressed that in many other areas, the United States is a committed partner and friend. Liechtenstein is not a member of the European Union.

“As you honor your rich history on this special day, I wish all citizens of Liechtenstein continued peace and prosperity.” -Ms. Clinton
