The citizens of Czech Republic today celebrated their National Day.
Membership in the European Union(EU) is crucial in Czech Republic’s foreign policy. The Czech Republic held the Presidency of the Council of the EU for the first half of 2009, according to Wikipedia.
“Our two countries are working to promote democracy around the world. The Czech Republic has provided invaluable support to the mission in Afghanistan, helping the Afghan people as they rebuild their country and take responsibility for their own security.” -Ms. Clinton
Ms. Clinton stressed that Czechs are applying their own experience with democratic transition to foster institution building and strengthen civil society in Eastern Europe and the Middle East.

Czech Republic is a pluralist multi-party parliamentary representative democracy. It is an active member of the European Union, NATO, the OECD, the OSCE, the Council of Europe and the Visegrad Group.
