Political Football: Time To Change Cold-War Thinking?

Vladislav Krasnov, president of The Russia and America GoodWill Association says there are some negative trends affecting US foreign policy that the mainstream media can’t be relied upon to cover in a meaningful way.

The Russia and America GoodWill Association (RAGA) is not a political organization and usually it steers clear of political parties and partisan politics both in Russia and the USA. The association has plenty of other things to do to promote greater intercultural understanding between Russia and the US.

RAGA is an association of Americans who believe it is in the U.S. national interest to foster friendship with Russia on the basis of mutual Good Will and non-interference in each other’s affairs.

Members share common interests in Russia’s history, culture, religion, economy, politics and the way of life. They feel that Russian people have made outstanding contributions to humankind and are capable of greater achievements, envisioning Russia as a strong, independent, proud and free nation and as a partner in achieving peace in the world.

Political or not, RAGA is certainly attentive to all trends that might jeopardize their mission.

Mr Krasnov says a statement made by some RAGA associates was recently carried by the blog Russia: Other Points of View. He says it is ironic that many Americans tell him that RT is a better source on what’s going on in the United States than the “domestic” TV networks (Fox, NBC, CBS, CNN). It certainly adds to America: Other Points of View.

The statement at Russia: Other Points of View, from the self-labeled “Reagan Republicans,” credits President Obama for the broad direction of his “reset” with Russia.

They say the implementation of the “reset” is not without fault, but they welcome the move of American policy away from the “sterile and gratuitous hostility toward post-communist Russia and its legitimate national interests that characterized the Bill Clinton and George W. Bush administrations.”

With presidential elections coming up, the writers say they are concerned about the possibility of foreign influences pressuring GOP candidates to achieve their own ends. They really want to see some serious thinking about more constructive approaches.
