Salvation Army Quietly Aids Haiti and I.C.R.C. Maintains Family Locator Database

Although not as well-known for their emergency response as the Red Cross, the Salvation Army is another international aid agency which often responds to disasters.

Despite having had damage to the S.A.’s headquarters and fears that Army’s Children’s Home might have been badly damaged and children killed or injured, only one of the Home’s 52 students now remains unaccounted for after the earthquake.

An aid coordinator was on the way and expected to be operating by the 14th, with 285,000 meals ready to be sent to Haiti.

Also, just a reminder that a continually updated and expanding database of Haitian families is available at FamilyLinks in both French and English.

In an earlier Newsblaze story I reported on this database and the U.S. Embassy contact information if you are looking for an American who is thought to have been in the disaster area.
