Today, it was learned that a new mechanized anti-riot Iraqi unit equipped with armored vehicles and heavy machine guns has been stationed all around Camp Liberty.
This is a reminder of Iraqi armored vehicles that had been stationed in Ashraf a few days before the 8th of April of last year. On that day, a deadly attack was made by Iraq, on the residents.
This new revelation is a very dangerous sign of ominous intentions on the eve of Maliki’s trip to Tehran on Sunday. The Iranian regime’s main demand has always been destroying its main opposition in Iraq.
A report at the time said:
On Friday, 8 April 2011, Iraqi security forces loyal to Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki launched a deadly and vicious attack on thousands of defenseless and unarmed Iranian refugees in Camp Ashraf, Iraq. This unprovoked and inhumane assault led to a devastatingly large number of casualties, which thus far include 33 dead and more than 300 injured, 18 of them with life-threatening wounds. Sadly, there were also eight women who lost their lives.
Near East Human Rights Initiative Strongly Condemns Massacre in Camp Ashraf and Demands Urgent UN Probe
In that deadly attack, defenseless civilians were killed. The Iraqi military ran over people with armored vehicles. Unarmed refugees, especially women, were targeted and shot deliberately. Their water supply was cut off, food and medicine supplies were destroyed and taken away. Buildings and residences were looted and razed.
After that attack, the United States took no action at all, and that emboldened Maliki forces, and they looted buildings and destroyed the cemetery inside the camp, preventing the burial of bodies.
The Government of Iraq has not complied with any of its commitments and has repeatedly breached the provisions of the Memorandum of Understanding it signed with the UN without informing the residents and obtaining their agreement. That MoU lacks major parts of the minimum requirements of the residents.
Preparing for another massacre by Iraqi forces at the behest of Iranian Mullahs in Liberty will stop a peaceful relocation and obviously stops other Ashraf residents moving to Liberty.
