Armed gunmen are confirmed to have killed Radio journalist Mr. Daud Omar and his wife in Baidoa town on Wednesday night, the capital of Bay region, according to the reports.

The murdered journalist was working for a local F.M station in Baidoa; however, a regional police officer blamed armed group Al Shabaab for the attack.

Mr. Omar was in his house together with his wife when gunmen reportedly attacked them. The gunmen also killed a young man in the area then escaped the scene according to journalists there.

Baidoa is 250 Km away from the Capital Mogadishu and journalists based in Somalia face murder and other security threats as the country is one of the riskiest and most treacherous environments for both Somali and international journalists to operate.

Sometimes it is the reports they make that put them at risk.

Stories on politics, the security situation or other sensitive issues are the most dangerous.
