Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf today visited Washington, DC. United States Secretary of State Hillary Clinton warmly welcomed the Liberian President.
Ms. Clinton said Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has provided not only very productive, positive leadership for her own country but has been a leader in Africa and beyond on a range of issues.
“And I’m looking forward to our conversation today on the agenda between us bilaterally and how we can work together regionally and globally.” -Ms. Clinton
President Sirleaf also expressed her appreciation for the United States’ support to Liberia. She said Liberia has made progress and that the nation is now moving ahead in its program of democracy in 2011.
“We want you to know that we are determined that Liberia will become America and the world’s post-conflict success story. We are well on the way toward achieving that objective.” -President Sirleaf
Sirleaf was named by Forbes magazine as the 51st most powerful woman in the world in 2006. Newsweek listed her as one of the ten best leaders in the world in 2010.
