Gabon And Cameroon In Yet Another Surprise Cup of African Nations Result

Cameroon are one of the big teams in this Cup of African Nations and they entered the competition as second favorites behind the Ivory Coast, they began their campaign today with a match against the weaker Gabon who have only won one match in the history of this tournament.

Cameroon started the better of the two and they nearly opened up the scoring early on, Emana drove a shot from out wide and it looked destined for the goal but the Gabon Goalkeeper got his fingers to the ball and pushed it against the outside of the post. Things looked to be heading towards a dominate performance by the favorites but on sixteen minutes Gabon turned the tide of the game. Hull City striker Daniel Cousin found himself one-on-one with the Cameroon keeper Kameni, and keeping his composure he cutely slid the ball into the back of the net to give Gabon the lead.

Cameroon tried to find their way back in the game but they struggled to break down the Gabon defense and couldn’t seem to get their star striker Samuel Eto’o on the ball. The teams went in at the break with Gabon still leading and looking to cause yet another upset in a cup which has already thrown up a handful of surprise results.

Cameroon came out in full force in the second half as they created a number of chances to try to get themselves back in the game. It looked like it would be a matter of time before they equalized but that time continued to tick without a Cameroon goal as Webo, Emana, Geremi and Eto’o all tested the goalkeeper with further chances being missed by Makoun, Song and Tchoyi.

Gabon held on well and despite creating no chances and defending for the majority of the second half they did strike the Cameroon crossbar in the third minute of injury time. The whistle game three minutes later and Gabon took a valuable three points.
