Fatal Plane Crash Kills 32 in Sudan

A fatal airplane crash in Soudan has killed all 32 people on board on Sunday, including a Sudanese Government minister.

Reports say the plane was en route to the volatile South Kordofan state, to attend prayers for a Muslim holiday.

The plane crashed reportedly was “due to harsh weather conditions” in a mountainous area near Talodi, a small town southwest of the capital, Khartoum.

Today, the head of the United Nations-African Union peacekeeping mission in Darfur, known by the acronym UNAMID, today expressed her sadness over a fatal airplane crash which killed many people.

According to UNAMID, the Acting Joint Special Representative of UNAMID, Aichatou Mindaoudou, is saddened by today’s plane crash, which took the life of an entire delegation chaired by the Minister of Guidance and Endowments, Ghazi Al-Saddiq, as well as the crew.

“On behalf of UNAMID, Ms. Mindaoudou offers her deepest sympathies and heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families of all victims and to the Government and the people of Sudan.” -UNAMID

UNAMID consists of the 23,000-strong force, which was set up in 2008 to help end a war between the Government, backed by its militia allies, and various rebel groups. At least 300,000 people have died and 2.7 million others have been driven from their homes since fighting erupted in 2003.
