Whispers of the Past: 24th Annual Folsom Quilt Show

Each year about this time, the members of the Folsom Quilt and Fiber Guild delight the quilting community and beyond with their wonderful 3 day quilt show. This year is just as wonderful as years past.

The Folsom show generally has over 200 entries, including stunning quilts, wearable art, and other exquisite fiber items. The show includes 22 vendors, demonstrations, a boutique of handcrafted items, food service, door prizes, and, on Sunday, the announcement of the winner of our annual opportunity quilt.

I was fortunate enough to attend the preview party, as a member, last night and I took my husband as my guest. The hard work of all the members and friends who helped to set the show up earlier in the day made for a truly spectacular sight when we arrived around 6.45pm.

With a large membership, about 250, it certainly felt like they were all present last night! What a wonderful evening with presentations for the members who are so influential, door prizes and great refreshments.

It was truly a joy to walk around, admiring all the quilt and fiber art on display. From stunning wall quilts, to gorgeous bed quilts, to delightful miniatures and awesome wearable art it was a real treat. It was also lovely to see the soft dolls and shawls included in the awards. We left with a camera full of photos to enjoy and plenty of inspiration to become more creative myself.

If you have an opportunity to spend some time at the show it will be will worth a visit. It might even inspire you to take a quilting class and get involved in the quilting community.

The show runs from Friday February 6th 2009 and ends on Sunday February 8th 2009. For times and more official information look at the website www.folsomquilt.org
