Manchester United Slump To 3-1 Defeat At Everton

Manchester United were up against Everton in a tough early afternoon kickoff which would put them top if they could nick the three points.

With Gary Neville leading Man Utd out of the tunnel and his brother Phil heading the Everton team, one would have expected some pleasantries or at least a handshake in the tunnels, but the two only had the game on their minds and didn’t even share a glance as they stood side by side and led their teams onto the pitch.

The game started brightly and within fifteen minutes we had the first goal. A Valencia cross found Berbatov who drilled a shot in off the crossbar from close range, followed by a complacent celebration from this cool character.

The lead didn’t last long though and three minutes later Everton were back in the game. Bilyaletdinov took the ball twenty-five yards out and smacked a screamer past Van der Sar who didn’t even move.

Rooney rounded the Goalkeeper in the first half but he failed to get a shot off. Everton ended the first half on a high though, playing well and creating chances but failing to find another goal before the break.

The second half was far less lively with the two teams scrapping to find a winner. As we entered the final fifteen minutes it looked like the next team to score would win and Everton did just that. Pienaar drove a low cross across the box and Gosling stuck out a foot, knocking the ball into the net.

Manchester United piled on the pressure to try to square things up, with top man Rooney coming very close from a free-kick with three minutes to go. But Everton ended on a high when Rodwell ran through the United defense and drove home in stoppage time, ending the game 3-1, a fantastic win for Everton and a disappointing defeat for United.
