Tiger Woods is Truly Sorry

Tiger Woods took to a lone podium, addressed his sins to the entire world and made it look very convincing. Would you like to know why I think he was sincere? Of course you would.

He shouldn’t have had to do that at all. Is there even such a thing as privacy anymore in this fading republic? Why should anyone really care about Woods’ personal life? What business of it is yours? Let me ask you something, if your personal life was being spread all over the place at work, how would you feel?

You would say “that’s MY personal business, stay out of it!” Hypocrisy much? For some reason I will never fully understand, America has this idiotic obsession with celebrities. That’s made evident by the subscription rates to Us Weekly and People Magazine – two magazines of which have reached critical mass with a plethora of Tiger Woods stories.

Are our lives in such an unavoidable state of despair that we have to look to the glamorous and privileged lives of celebrities to ease the pain? Does being a celebrity predispose you to have a myriad of Paparazzi stalking you at every turn? I don’t think it does. Face facts people, celebrities are human; they make human mistakes. To scrutinize Tiger Woods for his transgressions more than anyone else in this country is ridiculous and moronic.

Tiger made a plea to the buzzing blood-sucking gnats that are Paparazzi to stay away from his family, and they should stick by it. Really now? Following a two and a half year old to school? Where’s your shame? Where’s your sense of humanity for this man? See, along with America’s obsession with celebrities, there’s the underlying obsession with hoping they fall from grace at any second. That’s exactly why I doubt very many people see anything wrong with Paparazzi following him and his family around – “the guy deserves it.” Celebrities are exempt from that whole “second-chance” thing.

Nobody has a perfect society. That doesn’t mean we should be striving to keep ourselves focused on the lives of others. Some people avoid their own problems by becoming ingrained with the problems of others – you know, therapists.

A man can get therapy for his wrongdoing and show contrition for letting those who admired him down, and the good nature of people should shine through and offer forgiveness. Completely ignoring the fact that Mr. Woods shouldn’t have to be asking the AMERICAN PEOPLE for forgiveness – nobody stands to give this man a chance now that everything is published. He stood up there with the world watching and delivered a sincere, heartfelt apology to the masses. He made a plea for privacy, one of which will most certainly go unheard. That’s good enough for me, considering that once again, he shouldn’t have to answer to anyone in regards to his PERSONAL LIFE.

Golf to me personally is an elitist, overpaid sport. However, there is no doubting what really matters to me – he is the greatest, most prolific golfer the world has ever seen, and the American public may just ruin that for him. I’m reminded of the Lewinsky scandal – that information was between Bill Clinton, his wife and his women. Yes, he lied about it, but he should have never been presented an opportunity to lie about it. Tiger Woods has the decency to admit his wrongdoings, and he’s still vilified by a cretinous public. It’s sickening.

Here’s a more practical reason that Woods is truly sorry: He’s losing money. Good enough for you? No further explanation necessary.

I often wonder why celebrities are so unforgivable to people in the first place. The same forgiveness they offer the coworker that spread the nasty rumor about them has no place with a celebrity. I will reiterate that people love nothing more than to see a hot-shot celebrity humbled and on their knees. I thought the fact that Woods’ nose had been generally clean for so long would mean people would give him a bit more leeway when it comes to what was revealed. As with many things in this nation, I thought wrong.

Get real, people. Woods is a shamed, humbled man showing remorse for his sins. He addressed his family first and foremost, and I was glad to see that. I know some people who looked up to him were let down, but seriously – everybody has their demons; that includes people you hail as heroes. The things you don’t see in their lives are obscure for a reason; they’re none of your damn business.

So, in the words of some now forgotten internet sensation: LEAVE TIGER ALONE!
