Ravelry Ravelympics Comes to Folsom

The hugely popular social website for knitters, Ravelry, launched their Ravelympics group again, this time during the 2010 Winter Olympics being held in Vancouver Canada.

On the website there were several events that you could enter and you could enter as many as you thought you could complete in during the games. Knitters create funny names for some of their projects. Some of the events were WIP (Work In Progress), which was any project that had not been touched since before January 12th. Lace luge was another event and of course there were many others, including UFOs (UnFinished Objects).

Members of the Sacramento knitting guild “Camellia City Stockin’ettes,” who are also Ravelry members, decided to create a team called Team Yarn Sac Near and Far. We also decided to meet for the opening ceremony and share a potluck meal and start our projects after 6pm, the official Ravelry starting time.

We had several ladies competing in the WIP and they arrived with many unfinished projects in baskets. It will be fun to see just how many items are completed and worn with pride in the next few weeks. A few ladies entered events to make sweaters for themselves, partners or children.

All projects must be completed by the closing ceremony of the Olympic Games, February 28th and it will be fun to see the results at our knitting guild meeting during the first week of March.
