Al-Shabaab brings terror in Djibouti
The terrorist group Al-Shabaab is on a killing spree again as it claimed reponsibility in the latest suicide attack in restaurant in Djibouti which killed three people, a Turkish national and two suicide bombers.
According to media reports, the terrorist group issued statement saying that the suicide attack mainly targeted westerners particularly the French “crusaders.”
The notorious group also issued threats that demanded for the local government to expel foreign forces or else they will launch a a wave of more serious attacks.
The Al-Shabaab militants said the attack targeted a restaurant where the place becomes a popular hangout for French crusaders and US allies.
Reports say seven French nationals, four Germans, three Spanish and several Djiboutians were injured during the deadly attack.
US Condemns the attack
In a press statement in Washington DC, US Department Spokesperson the United States condemns in the strongest terms the May 24 terrorist attack by al-Shabaab at Place Menelik in Djibouti City.
“We extend our condolences to the families and loved ones of the Turkish national killed and all of those injured by this reprehensible attack.” – Ms. Psaki
Ms. Psaki highlighted that the US government will continue to stand with Djibouti and our other international partners in their efforts to counter al-Shabaab and promote regional stability and economic growth in the Horn of Africa.
Al Shabaab Brings Terror In Somalia
Records of terrorism have hunted the African country for many decades.
Last year, Al Shabaab gunmen in the capital Mogadishu used a car bomb to blow a hole in the U.N. compound’s wall. Twenty people, including U.N. staff, were killed in the incident.
In another incident, al Shabaab attacked a U.N. convoy with a remote-controlled bomb earlier this year. The attack killed at least seven Somalis.
Fighting between Somalia’s Transitional Federal Government (TFG) and Al-Shabaab militants had already uprooted tens of thousands of people in Mogadishu before the current humanitarian crisis began. Ongoing insecurity and drought, as well as famine in parts of southern Somalia, have caused a massive influx of starving adults and children into the city in the past two months.
Al-Shabaab militants are infamous for deliberately blocking the delivery of food assistance in an area of south central Somalia which is under direct or indirect control of al-Shabaab.
The Al-Shabaab militant group has been compared with the Taliban in Afghanistan and Pakistan because of its opinions and beliefs.
