If ever there was a strong argument to keep the Guantanamo Bay detention center open, it is Ibrahim al-Rubaysh.
On Monday this week, The United States announced it is offering a $5 million bounty for the recapture of an Ibrahim al-Rubaysh. The Islamic terrorist was freed in Decmber 2006, released to a Saudi rehab program for militants.
That rehab program was endorsed by President George W. Bush.
Now Ibrahim al-Rubaysh, a Saudi national, is a wanted terrorist, based in Yemen, and he has a $5million bounty on his head.
A Judicial Watch report just released, says, “It turns out that al-Rubaysh is the poster child for the Saudi rehab’s failures. He’s a dangerous al-Qaida operative based in Yemen and now, years after freeing him, the United States wants him captured.”
The aim of the Saudi “rehabilitation program” was to reform violent jihadists, by teaching them to stop misinterpreting Islamic law. It seems that didn’t work, at least with al Rubaysh, who escaped, possibly to Yemen. The Saudi “rehabilitation program” program has been labeled a dismal failure.
According to what Judicial Watch learned, the rehab program has widely failed to keep rehabbed militants from returning to terrorism after they graduated from the program.
Al-Rubaysh, who was in the Gitmo detention center, is now somewhere on the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP), according to the State Department, and he is a senior leader.
In official State Department language, “He serves as a senior adviser for AQAP operational planning and is involved in the planning of attacks. He has served as a senior AQAP sharia official since 2013, and as a senior AQAP sharia official, al-Rubaysh provides the justification for attacks conducted by AQAP,”
Judicial Watch says the worldwide search for al-Rubaysh is an “unbelievable story. We learn this just as Barack Obama “frees more and more terrorists” as part of his 2008 campaign promise to close Guantanamo Bay permanently.
