Jeb Bush Close to Running for President in 2016

It would make history. A third family member becoming President of the United States.

Will Americans see yet a third Bush run for president in 2016?

Former Florida Governor, Jeb Bush, is giving it more than casual thought. He will speak at the annual Conservative Political Action Conference next month. That is generally an indicator of a politician’s intent to run for president.

The conference will convene March 14-16 in National Harbor, Md., just outside Washington. The former governor has been approached several times in the past to speak, which he declined.

This will be Jeb Bush’s first appearance.

Jeb Bush Was A Popular Governor

Bush served two terms as Florida’s popular governor before leaving the post in 2006. Speculation that he would run for president in 2008 and 2012 went strangely unanswered as Bush chose to travel the national lecture circuit and bide his time.

He has been a vociferous critic of the Republican Party’s inability to communicate their message to minorities. That includes the failure to unify and embrace comprehensive immigration reform.

Ironically, a fellow Floridian, Sen. Marco Rubio has emerged as the chief Republican advocate on that topic, stealing some of Bush’s political thunder.

While immigration reform is Bush’s number one priority, it is coupled with his intense interest in the nation’s education policy – a key priority during his tenure as Florida’s governor.

His Intentions Look Serious

The seriousness of Bush’s intentions can also be seen as he stays in close contact with cabinet members from his brother’s (George W. Bush) presidency, 2001-09. He brushes aside the periodic meetings as simply gaining a better understanding of the nation’s education policies.

Similar sound bites of tongue-in-cheek presidential ambitions have been forthcoming from former Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton.

Jeb Bush was one of the nation’s first governors to push through comprehensive education reform. Florida’s plan has since been modeled by 36 states.
