Gangster and Funky Joe’s triumphant debut occurred when they awoke the island’s listeners, at 5:30 AM this morning, with their shenanigans on La Mega 106.9 FM. The first VIP to be awakened was the Governor of Puerto Rico, Anibal Acevedo Vila who confessed, after being surprised with the wake-up call, that after the interview he was definitely ‘going back to sleep’.” Later, the Mayor of San Juan, Jorge Santini, said a few words in support of the new program’s launch.

During this time of the year, Puerto Rico celebrates the “Festival de San Sebastian,” a preamble to “Carnaval,” with the “zanqueros,” the “cabezudos” and the “batukeo.” Yesterday the “spirit” of the festival was effectively recreated on “El Circo” whose program captured the energy and exhilaration of a circus carnival.

The program was simulcast on radio and television (effective February 29, 2008) while simultaneously streaming on the web – a new revolutionary multimedia broadcast format.

On-hand to welcome the new show were the top executives of Spanish Broadcasting System; President and CEO, Raul Alarcon, Executive VP and CFO, Joseph Garcia, Executive VP and COO, Marko Radlovic, and Chief Creative Officer and Executive Vice President, Cynthia Hudson-Fernandez.” I couldn’t miss coming to the Island for the launch of ‘El Circo’,” said Raul Alarcon “Puerto Rico is an important market for SBS, and I feel right at home here,” he concluded.

“This is an historic occasion for all of us,” added Carlos “Topy” Mamery, General Manager and Senior Vice President of SBS Puerto Rico while effusively hugging “El Gangster” and “Funky Joe.” “We are all here to offer our full support,” he concluded.

“Funky Joe” expressed his satisfaction at being part of the SBS Radio family in Puerto Rico. “I’ve grown to greatly respect Topy for many reasons; he has had great vision, he has understood our concept and he has known how to convey it,” he said.

“We are very happy for all the support that SBS has shown us by being here with us during our first show,” said “El Gangster” enthusiastically at the end of the first broadcast of this new radio program that airs simultaneously on WMEG-FM, San Juan and WEGM-FM, Mayaguez.

Cynthia Hudson took advantage of the occasion to announce another piece of important news for SBS; Mega TV, will be available in Puerto Rico, as of February 27, on DIRECTV Channel 169 where the audience can enjoy El Circo as well.. Also present among all the executives this morning were Rick Nerod, Vice President of Programming for DIRECTV Latin America, Roberto Valerio, Director of Marketing of DIRECTV in Puerto Rico,; Israel Ortiz, Programming Senior Manager; Damaris Santiago Marketing Manager and Elsa Lopez, Senior Director Programming Acquisition for DIRECTV.

Among the talent and celebrities invited to participate in the historic launch were Daddy Yankee, who stopped by to congratulate the hosts. Also present were Pedro Telemaco, Roselyn Sanchez, Dayanara Torres, Miss Puerto Rico Universe, Ingrid Rivera, Ivan Calderon, among others.

A very moving moment occurred when co-host, Daniela Droz, broke out in tears of emotion and thanked “El Gangster” and “Funky Joe” for the opportunity they had given her to be a part of such a stellar team.

Don’t miss “El Circo,” from Monday through Friday 5:30 to 10:00 AM on La Mega 106.9 FM and 95.1 FM., your favorite station in Puerto Rico.
