Reading to Kids to Read from ‘My Friend Suhana’ in February 2018

California-based charity organization Reading To Kids will be including a reading from the Loving Healing Press’s title My Friend Suhana in their February 2018 reading selection.

Winner of 2016 Dolly Gray Children’s Literature Award, the book by award-winning author Reading to Kids to Read from 'My Friend Suhana' in February 2018 1and designer Shaila Abdullah with her 10-year-old daughter Aanyah Abdullah tells the heartwarming tale of a little girl who forms a close bond with a child with cerebral palsy. Since its publication in early 2014, it has been warmly received as a book with immense inspirational value for promoting compassion and friendship toward children with special needs.

The monthly reading sessions at Reading to Kids are aimed at improving the English language competence of primary English learners. The text read to the children is selected by teachers and nearly all the listeners are children from low-income backgrounds that are more academically challenged.

Since 1999, Reading to Kids has distributed over 160,000 books to children as well as donated more than 29,000 read-aloud books to libraries of participating schools. The organization always welcomes book donations for their literacy cause.

Donation of helpful and educational books is part of the mission of presses like the one that published My Friend Suhana. Victor Volkman, Publisher at the Loving Healing Press, tells that his press often makes donations of children’s books to organizations that support families in low-income environments, survivors of abuse, and children with special needs.

“Giving back to communities is a core part of our mission,” he says, “which is redefining what is possible for healing mind and spirit.”
