Sacramento, CA – The Community College Foundation, serving education and community for 23 years announced today that John Couch, one of the legends in the history of Apple Computing, will be the opening keynote at TechEd 2007 coming March 25 – 28, to the Ontario Convention Center in Ontario, Southern California.

“John Couch as opening keynote of TechEd is a very exciting development,” says Matson Breakey, marketing director for the conference & exposition as it heads into its 12th year. “John was involved in the earliest development of Apple’s Lisa, the predecessor to the Mac and the ingenuity behind every mouse and GUI interface we use everyday. He has ridden the wave and seen the powerful impact computers can have on the learning environment, his presentation will promise to bring TechEd attendees to their feet!”

John Couch started his career at HP before being recruited to a young Apple Computers in late 70’s. As Apple’s first vice president of software he headed up the Lisa unit, where Couch worked closely with Steve Jobs to develop the predecessor to the Macintosh. The Lisa was the first to production machine to utilize the mouse and the Graphic User Interface (GUI) that we now know of as the standard working environment for most Macs and PCs.

In 1985 Couch turned his attention to the Sante Fe Christian School where he developed one of the first successful models of how the creative use of technology in education can revolutionize the learning environment.

“At TechEd, our mission has always been to promote effective uses of technology in education,” says Matson. “John is focused on that same mission and shares the same goals as every TechEd attendee. His participation truly takes TechEd 2007 to an unprecedented level and is in continuing with our theme of Inspiring the Vision.”
