Terrorist Rampage Hits Central London; 7 Dead, Terrorists Killed

Three Suspects Were Killed in Confrontation

Seven people were killed when a deadly terrorist rampage hit central London Saturday night. There were two related incidents.

The terrorist incidents involved a vehicle hitting people on the pedestrian pathway on London Bridge and stabbings at Borough Market.

The brutal terrorist rampage left 48 civilians wounded.

Three suspects emerged as the perpetrators of the two incidents. They were later shot and killed by police in the Borough Market.

The attack comes almost two weeks after 22 people died in a suicide bombing at a concert in Manchester.

The Vehicle and Stabbing Incidents

British police announced that the three suspects drove a van striking pedestrians on London Bridge, leaving many people hurt. The three suspects then drove their vehicle to Borough Market, and stabbed innocent and unarmed civilians.

Metropolitan Police Assistant Commissioner Mark Rowley said, “The suspects then left the vehicle and a number of people were stabbed.”

London Bridge is normally crowded on Saturday nights. Borough Market is also a popular place to hang out among locals and tourists, due to its bars and restaurants. It is a short distance from the bridge.

The Quick Response

Armed officers and ambulances were quick to respond to reports of the van plowing into people on London Bridge. In fact, the suspects were confronted and shot by police within eight minutes of the first call.

Medics responded as well without wasting time. The London Ambulance Service sent over 80 of its medics to the scene including ambulance crews, advanced paramedics, and specialist response teams.

After the incident, reports say 48 people were taken to five hospitals and others were treated at the scene for minor injuries.

The Attack in Central London Draws Condemnation

The British and international communities expressed strong condemnation of the terrorist incidents in London.

Early on, Prime Minister Theresa May described the incidents as “dreadful events” and potential acts of terrorism.

President Donald Trump spoke with Prime Minister May to offer his condolences. The White House said Trump “praised the heroic response of police and other first responders and offered the full support of the United States Government in investigating and bringing those responsible for these heinous acts to justice.”

In addition, US State Department condemned the incidents, saying, “The United States stands ready to provide any assistance authorities in the United Kingdom may request. Our hearts are with the families and loved ones of the victims. We wish a full and quick recovery to those injured in the attacks.”
