Another Suicide Attack In Pakistan
A suicide attack at a mosque in a tribal area of north-western Pakistan has left 25 people dead including two children. At least 40 civilians were wounded.
CNN reported that the suicide bomber detonated his device inside the crowded mosque which was filled with around 150 Friday worshipers.
The mosque where the blast took place is one of the biggest in Mohmand Agency, a district in Pakistan’s Federally Administered Tribal Areas north of Peshawar.
Pakistan’s tribal areas have been targeted by deadly attacks perpetrated by both the Pakistani Taliban and the so-called Islamic State.
The Aftermath
The blast left a trail of destruction and fatalities. Body parts were scattered around the blast site. Blood was everywhere.
This report was confirmed by Naveed Akbar, assistant administrator for the agency. He said two children under the age of 10 were killed in the blast and four children under the age of 10 are among the injured.
Nakbar added the death toll is expected to rise.
The Perpetrator
This time, a faction group of the Pakistani Taliban called the Jamaat-ul-Ahra (The Party of Freedom Fighters) claimed responsibility of the deadly attack.
The extremist group is prominent for launching the attack that targeted elders from a government-sponsored anti-Taliban militia.
The group has claimed a number of deadly attacks, including a suicide bombing that killed more than 70 civilians including many children at a park during Easter celebrations this year.
In addition, one of its most deadly attacks was a bombing on August 8 that targeted lawyers and journalists and killed more than 72 people.
The extremist group split from the Pakistani Taliban two years ago.
Cowardly Attack
The country’s Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif condemned the attack in a statement released by his office.
He said, “The cowardly attacks by terrorists cannot shatter the government’s resolve to eliminate terrorism from the country.”
