Terrorist Acts Around the World Within 24 Hours

Terrorist Acts Seen Around the World

Surging terrorism is making headlines again. And, it is happening around the globe. On the first day of May, six prominent terrorist acts were recorded. Only one had a positive outcome.

In the Philippines, ten Indonesian sailors finally returned home Sunday after being freed by the terrorist group Abu Sayyaf Islamic militants in the southern Philippines. Last week, the extremist group beheaded a Canadian captive that sparked worldwide outrage and condemnation. The terrorist group is allegedly holding at least one Filipina and 11 foreign hostages – four sailors from Malaysia and four others from Indonesia, a Canadian tourist, a Norwegian resort owner and a Dutch birdwatcher.

Deadly Suicide Bombings Hit Iraq

Two suicide car bombings rocked the Samawi city of Iraq, killing at least 32 and wounding 72 people. The first blast hit a government building, while the second blast took place near a bus stop. Islamic State (IS) claimed responsibility for the suicide car bombings that rocked the southern Iraqi city.

Turkey Targeted by Islamic State

Acts of terrorism also hit Turkey on May 1. The Turkish town of Kilis was hit by two rockets from Islamic State controlled Syrian territory, injuring at least two people. The rocket attacks were not something new for the residents of the town. In recent weeks, the town was hit by three rockets but there were no casualties.

In another part of the country, two policemen were killed in a car bomb attack on the police headquarters in the city of Gaziantep. The attack also wounded 22 people in a day marred by May Day protests and violence.

Still on the same day, Turkish police detained four suspected ISIS terrorists who were allegedly planning an attack for May Day celebrations in the country’s capital of Ankara. Turkey authorities are now on red alert as a series of ISIS-related attacks plagued the country this year.
