In a change of pace, the Folsom Thursday Night Market attracts crafters and families and more closely involves local restaurants and merchants.
This evening, the second Thursday Night Market for 2008, 13 becomes a lucky number, as 12 Sutter Street restaurants utilize the signature lamp post menu special signs placed along the street.
As you walk the street, enjoying the atmosphere, sounds, craft booths and Farmers Market, you can pick up menus. Each menu shows the special for a nearby restaurant with the price and phone number displayed. On the back is a special map that shows the location of all restaurants and the location of entertainment venues and times.
To order your meal, you can walk in or call in to order ahead. Pick up your meal and then go outside to eat. Of course, you can eat in too, but a lot of people apparently like to sit outside or walk and eat.

This week, there will be 12 or more Farmers Market stalls with fresh produce that includes peaches, nectarines, strawberries, blueberries, garlic, parsley, tomatoes and other vegetables. There is also a baker, a coffee merchant – choose beans or ground – plus gourmet preserves, flowers and more.
Lori Wille, the Folsom Thursday Night Market coordinator says she is expecting more than 30 craft booths this evening. She said “This evening is really great. Entertainent includes big inflatable entertainment for the kids in the 900 block, including a big bouncing castle, rock climbing wall and Orbitron.”
Outside Pachangas in the 800 block, you’ll find AJ, (Mitch Michel) solo guitar and vocalist. Jim Kelly will probably be playing his guitar outside Rainbow Jewellers and at the Hacienda in the 700 block, there is a big stage for the Folsom Lake Ballet and “Stages,” a Tap group.
In the 600 block there will be some mean-looking dinosaurs the kids can ride on and Scarlett’s has “Deanaholic.”
At the Interpretive Center on Wool Street, there will be blacksmithing, goldpanning, demonstrations and kids activities. At 8:30, the Powerhouse Pub has line dancing.

Don’t forget, there is free parking in the Parking garage on Reading Street, between Sutter and Liedesdorff. Take a ride around the market in a pedicab, thanks to Folsom Historic District Association and FABA, the Folsom Area Bicycle Advocates, who provide the pedal power.
